Diabetic walk
Thanks for coming out to walk for a good cause. The warm sun was shining down on us! It was good fun! I will put all of the walkers names in a basket and we'll pick a name to recieve the t-shirt from the diabetic walk. Thanks again.

Hi
A new report from the American Cancer Research center states exercise like yoga can help prevent breast cancer, along with a low fat diet and limiting one's alcohol consumption.
This week in yoga we are working @ increasing our immune system's response by doing some deep relaxation and restorative poses.
Next Thursday, Oct. 1 Sherrie Jacobs will share her detox program from Beauticontrol.

Hello!!
Summer is soon approaching and it happens to fall on Father's Day this year. All the more reason to celebrate your Father's life. Why not honor his life with a few sun salutations!
Tuesday evening yoga class is cancelled.

Walking meditation for Monday June 15
If you'd like to join us for a walking meditation Monday june 15,
*please come 10-20 minutes prior to class (class time 10 a.m.)
Quietly enter yoga room and set your things down then walk around the yard, gardens, on the street 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes (its up to you)
*Walk with internal and external awareness, slowly and observe your thoughts, your movements, your breath, your surroundings.
No talking. Notice how you step, the temperature of your skin, the beauty or the lack of beauty in your surroundings (but do not get wrapped up in the surroundings and daydream) Stay focused on the moment and your relationship with the universe.
Notice the muscles that you use, the shift in weight as you pick up each foot and how each foot touches the earth, how your hips move as you walk and what a miracle it is!!.
Then quietly come back (by 10:05)and sit in easy sitting pose, legs on the wall or savasana. Observe the effects of your walking meditation or use this time to journal.

Hope everyone had an exceptionally nice Mothers Day!
Today Monday May 11 is the last Monday evening class for 6 weeks. I will continue to hold the Tuesday evening class @ 6:45.
Monday @ 10 a.m. & Thursday @ 7:30 p.m. classes remain standard.
The next Niyama we will study is Santosha. If you tell me you saw Santosha on the blog, invite a friend for a free yoga class (limited to the end of May).

looking forward to integrating all that I learned at the workshop into our yoga classes.
With the unsteady economy, it seems appropriate to share Judith's daily practice from her book, A Year Of Living Your Yoga:
May 1~ Clarity about money is just another form of yoga practice.~
~Our beliefs about $$ often contribute to our suffering. Plan a time right now to sit down and look with clarity at your financial life. When you do, celebrate the things you like and make a plan to deal with the things that you don't.~
~I'd like to hear about your tappas... how do you keep your practice alive with zeal?
Not just the physical practice of asana, keeping in mind that the postures are just part of the practice. How about meditation, pranayama, focus and living your yoga?
~My secret... YOU are my tappas!!! Namaste, kathleen

Litter Bitter
Our roadsides all flutter
With litter and clutter
From long-living plastic food pans,
To diapers abandoned,
Just tossed out to land on
Our landscapes among all the cans.
If only this litter
Could follow and flitter
Back home to the tosser's front door,
"twas would be a solution to roadside pollution,
Such sins could be secret no more.

April News
I have always loved April. The bulbs begin to bloom, the buds on the trees are showing. The warmer weather slowly creeps back in. Easter is usually in April. It begins with lent, a time of quiet reflection and prayer then comes new beginnings and hope.
I was also born in April. So let's all celebrate our lives and new beginnings. Remember what Lilias Folan says, "Yoga gets better with age and age gets better with yoga!".
Angela Farmer who is another famous and awesome yoga teacher, just turned 70. She is still teaching and is very agile in her body and quick in her mind. I love her, she makes every student feel nurtured. I hope that you feel my love also. With the grace of God, I'll be teaching another 20 years.
I have a new class with a few students on Mondays @ 6:15 p.m. If you cannot attend your usual class, please let me know if you'd like to join us.

Spring has Sprung!!
Well Spring is finally here! I hope you all get the opportunity to be outdoors a lot and enjoy the sunshine. The fresh air brightens our spirits and when the sun is shining, we get the much needed Vit. D to keep our bones strong. Walking outside is a great source of physical exercise, but it can also be a way to meditate and quiet the soul.
Try practicing a walking meditation or what I call a prayerful walk!
Just walking with mindfulness, being very in the moment, being mindful of each step, each noise, each bird that you hear and see, each breath that you take, notice the breeze, the temperature of your skin, notice the sky, the road that you are walking on, be very aware, feel gratitude that you can walk, that you can breathe, that you can enjoy this day.
Think of all of those who cannot enjoy this day, who are sick, bedridden, in jail, depressed so much that they cannot see the beauty in the day. Think of those who you would love to send this wonderful feeling of walking, of enjoying the sunshine, of breathing deeply; and send them love and compassion. Enjoy your walk, your breath, this day, for them. Be happy in this moment of walking. Enjoy each step with gratitude. Happy walking!

Love is a Circle
Love is a circle

Find out in class the week of Feb. 1, ~Monday 10a.m., ~Thurs. 7:30p.m.
Assignment for those that choose to do so: Meditate on your breath for one minute.
Sit in easy pose with an erect spine but relax your eyes, your shoulders, your knees and hips.
Count backwards from 59. Inhale 59, exhale 58, inhale 57~ slow & even breaths.
When you get to 20, count each inhale and exhale as one~
inhale 20, exhale 20, inhale 19, exhale 19 ~
Meditation can increase one's happiness. Meditation may lengthen your life.

Sourdough bread recipe
Thanks for all who braved the cold to enjoy the 3 F's (fellowship, good food and fun!).
Here is the recipe that you asked for:
1 pound loaf of sourdough bread in the round
2 cups colby-jack shredded cheese
1 cup helmans real mayo
1 clove garlic crushed
1 small onion minced
12 slices bacon-cooked and crumbled
put all ingrediants in scooped out bread bowl (place pieces of bread in a plastic bag for dipping)
Bake 1 hour at 350 with lid on
